From Ocean Waste to Fashion Statements: How Salmon Leather is Redefining Luxury
At Kristian Eddé, true luxury is not just about aesthetics – it’s about intention, innovation, and impact. Our signature salmon leather isn’t an alternative. It’s luxury reimagined for the modern world.
What was once discarded as marine waste is transformed into lightweight, durable, and strikingly elegant accessories. The salmon skins are tanned in Iceland by our trusted partner Nordic Fish Leather – a world leader in sustainable fish leather production – and handcrafted into accessories in our Stockholm atelier.
As an official ambassador for Nordic Fish Leather, Kristian Eddé proudly represents the next generation of responsibly sourced exotic materials.
Born from the Sea, Refined with Scandinavian Excellence
Sourced from the pristine Nordic seas, salmon leather is a by-product of the fishing and aquaculture industry. Thanks to Nordic Fish Leather’s advanced tanning process, the skin’s natural grain, texture and strength are preserved – resulting in a leather that is both supple and remarkably durable.
Finished in our atelier using precision techniques like saddle stitching and hot foil embossing, each piece becomes a testament to Scandinavian craftsmanship and timeless design.
Our Role in Pioneering Marine Innovation
Beyond artisanal excellence, Kristian Eddé is proud to contribute as a selected expert in MAREFINE – a national research initiative led by RISE – Research Institutes of Sweden, in collaboration with Innovatum Science Park.
“Marine side streams from the fishing and seafood industry are being valorised into high value products.” – RISE
Together with academic and industrial partners – including Nordic Fish Leather – we explore how underutilized marine side streams such as salmon skins can be refined into circular high-value materials through advanced biorefinery techniques.
We actively help develop next-generation treatments (such as oil-based water-resistant coatings) that preserve the breathability, flexibility, and strength of salmon leather – while enhancing its durability in premium fashion applications.
Why It Matters
We turn marine waste into luxury. Salmon leather is not only more sustainable than cow, lamb, or pig leather – it is up to 9 times stronger per thickness, thanks to its unique cross-fibre structure.
By partnering with Nordic Fish Leather and contributing to the MAREFINE project, Kristian Eddé is helping lead the transition to a circular, transparent and future-oriented fashion industry – one that values resource efficiency, traceability and exceptional design.
Crafted for the Discerning Collector
Each accessory is handmade in Stockholm – from wallets and clutches to watch straps and sculptural bags. With every cut and stitch, we bring the story of the sea to life.
This is not fashion for the moment — it’s a legacy of craftsmanship, collaboration, and conscious design.
