What happens when a material from the fish industry enters the world of luxury fashion?
Kristian Eddé was founded by Swedish designer Daniel Kristian Edde Ankarstrand to explore exactly that question. The brand works with salmon leather, transforming salmon skins traditionally treated as a secondary material of the food industry into luxury bags and accessories.
But the ambition is bigger than creating another leather alternative. Kristian Eddé uses fashion as a platform to change how we see, value and use materials from the sea.
From salmon skin to luxury material
Salmon is one of the world's most important farmed fish. Its skin, however, has rarely been given the same attention as the rest of the fish. Daniel saw an opportunity in that overlooked material.
Working with Scandinavian salmon leather, Kristian Eddé has developed a distinctive material language around the skin combining its natural texture and character with the craftsmanship and standards of luxury fashion. The result is a collection of bags and accessories designed to make the material impossible to ignore.
Because when something becomes desirable, people start looking at it differently.
Pushing the material further
The next question was whether salmon leather could come from a different kind of salmon industry. Kristian Eddé has therefore been exploring leather made from land-farmed salmon, working with partners across Scandinavia and Japan to investigate tanning, production and traceability.
This work represents a new intersection between aquaculture, material innovation, fashion and luxury.
In 2025, Kristian Eddé presented a collection made from leather derived from land-farmed salmon demonstrating that a new source of salmon can also create new possibilities for the material.
This is not simply about finding another source of leather. It is about asking what the relationship between fashion and the fish industry could look like in the future.
Fashion as a platform
Kristian Eddé is a fashion brand, but fashion is the tool.
The products create desire around the material. Collaborations bring the idea into new environments. Research and experimentation push the material forward. Communication turns a material story into a cultural conversation.
The ambition is to build a luxury brand that can influence the industries behind its materials starting with salmon, and eventually exploring a wider world of materials from the sea.
